Tacoma Dome
The Tacoma Segment includes the area from the Fife/Tacoma city limit across the Puyallup River to the existing Tacoma Dome Station, through reservation and trust lands of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. The Tacoma Segment of the project will have two stations: Portland Avenue and Tacoma Dome.
The following station area information focuses on the Tacoma Dome
Preferred Alternative
. Sound Transit continues to study all alternatives in the Final EIS.
Tacoma Dome Station design
The Preferred Tacoma Dome Station would be adjacent to the Sounder tracks at East G St and East 25th St. Sound Transit and the City of Tacoma are collaborating to design a station that will support the Tacoma community. Our station plans propose several changes to the area directly within and around the station including:
- Sidewalks and bike lanes to ensure people of all ages and abilities can walk, bike, or roll within the station area.
- Relocated transit center with clear sightlines to transit connections and station entrances.
- Travel lanes and street parking to balance the access needs of passengers.
- Landscaping and trees lining all streets adjacent to the station to provide shade and separation between different travel modes.

Tacoma Dome Station access planning
Sound Transit and the City of Tacoma are identifying improvements that will make it easier to travel to Tacoma Dome Station while walking, biking, rolling, or taking transit. The potential projects below are informed by the City of Tacoma’s development plans and previous feedback from the City and the public. Please note that funding is limited, meaning there may not be the resources to build all potential station access projects below.
As you review these potential projects, consider whether they would make it easier to get to the station. Your feedback will help guide which projects are built and how they’re designed.

Potential corridor projects
- Puyallup Ave Pedestrian & Bicycle Improvements: Street updates from South C St to Fife City limits, with improved or new crossings, pedestrian facilities, bicycle facilities, and bus facilities.
- E 25th St Pedestrian Improvements: Improve pedestrian accessibility on East 25th St from South C St to East D St.
- E 25th St Sidewalk Improvements: Complete gaps in sidewalk and improve pedestrian accessibility on East 25th St from East G St to East J St.
- E 26th St Pedestrian & Bicycle Improvements: Enhance pedestrian safety and travel on East 26th St from A Street to East F St. If East 26th St is determined to be a primary bike connection to transit as part of station area planning, this project would include bicycle connections.
- East D St/E McKinley Way Pedestrian & Bicycle Improvements: Bicycle lane separation on East D St/East McKinley Way from East 21st St to East 34th St. New pedestrian connection on East McKinley Way between East D St and East G St.
Other potential projects
- Tacoma Dome Station Area Pedestrian Improvements: Improve pedestrian safety and accessibility at spot locations not included in larger corridor projects, including East 27th St and East F St.
- Railroad Crossing Improvements: Improve bicycle and pedestrian safety at railroad crossings in the Dome District, including crossings on East D St and East C St from East 25th St to East 26th St.
- Pacific Ave Pedestrian Improvements: Pedestrian safety improvements across the I-5 on-ramp between South 28th St and South 30th St, including improved crossings and filled sidewalk gaps.
